Em Dee (Mark Didj) is sponsored by Bob Druett of didji.com.au Australia's leading maker of quality concert class didjeridu's.
In
2001, Bob and Mark collaborated to create the worlds first portable
didj stand. This gives freedom of movement on stage and a choice to
play a wider range of perfect pitch notes in a single
composition.Opposed to the more traditional style of playing a single
didjeridu. The continuous support of didji.com.au has helped Em Dee to
experiment and develop his own unique style and become one of
Australia's finest Contemporary Didjeridu performers.
Using
a variety of breathing techniques and calls he creates an explosive,
high energy sound that varies between ambient break beats to high
energy dance rhythms of up to 240 beats per minute. The calls played by
Mark are a reflection of the vibrant sounds of nature he has
experienced during his years of travelling around Australia.
He
has released four cd's independently and these are distributed
worldwide these include, Raw Didge, Katamaran, Knot and Stomp.
Mark
has a good reputation with traditional didjeridu players, including
Darryl Dikarrna Brown, the protege of respected elder David Blanasi. In
an interview with the European magazine Didgeridoo and Co., Darryl was
asked, "Do you ever play like white people do?" He replied, " Airplane
style, no! But it's fun to listen to. I like Charlie McMahon and Mark
Hoffmann."
Mark learnt to circular breathe from a well
known entity in the didge world known as 'Wallabee', when handed his
first didjeridoo Mark mastered the technique in under a minute.
Mark
is a proffessional busker based at the world famous Mindle Beach
Markets NT Australia where he has been entertaining crowds for five
years every Thursday night and Sunday afternoon. Many an audience is
amazed by the sounds and energy created at his performance.
Having a great rapport with his audience and encouraging their participation is all a part of the experience.
He
has participated in the Pine Creek Didgeridoo Festival for over five
years, winning numerous competitions, performing both solo and with the
band Katamaran and judging competition winners. It was here that Mark
met Charlie McMahon who inspired him to continue playing his
didgeridoo.
Mark performed in Earth Circus, a
collective of artists, performers and musicians which included
performers such as Si from Wild Marmalade and Gunga Giri. Dedicated to
the environment, antinuclear movement, human and animal rights, they
donated their profits to various charities. This was a stepping stone
for many present day Australian performers.
He has performed at the Exodus Cyber Tribal Art and Music Festival both as a solo performer and with the band Katamaran.
Mark
has opened for the John Butler Trio on their tour of the Northern
Terrirory with his band Katamaran. This was Katamarans' last
performance and they have since separated to pursue other interests.
He plays on the soundrack for 'Dying to Open It' by Graham Morrison, Best Film at the Fist Full Of Films Competition.
